selena

SELENA....My ultimate favorite dress that I have ever drawn. I love everything about this dress, and put every little detail into consideration. I did give Selena some color but I choose to keep the image before she was colored because I felt like there was some beauty to the dress. I wanted to keep her pure and untouched.

Ok! lets start talking about Selenas inspiration. I think its all fairly obvious who shes inspired by...Selena Quintanilla-Perez. For those of you reading who don't know who she is, she is the queen of tejano music. She not only was she a singer she was a songwriter, actress, spokes person, and of corse fashion designer. Since I was little Selena was my idol! She died before I was born but I was obsessed with the movie starring Jenifer Lopez. I wanted to be just like Selena I wanted to sing and dance, and make dresses. In all honesty she is the reason why this whole thing started. I not only love Selena but I feel like she and I have a ton of similarites in common, she was dreamer, just like I, a lover of fashion, and a hopeless romantic. So this one is for Selena.

I got the idea of the dress from the fashion show Selena has, in the movie. I also did a little research on her clothing and all the things and outfits she designed for herself. Selena was bold she wasn't scared of taking risks and I certainly took no risks with this one here. I gave Selena a beaded top with intricate details at the top because I felt like Selena would of done the same with her own fashion line. I didn't want to just keep it simple on the top I wanted to continue the drama till the very end so I gave her some massive flowers from top to bottom surrounded by rinestones. I added flowers again keeping it towards my own personal style as well cause it is my own masterpiece too. I do tend to wear flowers no matter what season it is. The roses were also a hint of Selena's and mines Hispanic heritage. I associate red roses with Mexico for some reason because it reminds me of the passion and romance that Mexico contains. There are flowers on the bottom again with beaded embelishments because I didn't want Selena to be simple. The colors I originally colored Selena were green and red Mexico's flag colors again keeping it with that Hispanic romantic idea. Selena to me was like drawing a dream come true, when I look at this dress I am reminded of who I am and who I want to be and to always keep the passion alive. From the words of Selena Quintanilla "If you have a dream, don't anyone take it away, and always believe that the impossiable is always possiable." So to my readers out there keep your dreams, fight for it, and believe in yourself. You can make the impossiable happen if you just take risks just like I did with this dress. Go out andd find yourself and make yourself happy.

Ava

Let's talk Ava! She is the diva, the star of the show, and maybe one of my favorites of all of my dresses. Ava was given the name Ava because Ava to me seems like the fiesty woman who fights for what she wants. She is the goal, the dream you dream upon. It seemed like a strong powerful name to me, which is why I gave it to her cause this dress symbolizes strength and ambition.

Ava was inspired to me by a certain person and things. First of all she was inspired by the beautiful Marilyn Monroe. I remember sitting on the couch one weekend and watching "The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe." Alot of people could took the message of the movie as seeing Marilyn as a harlot because she had so many lovers, and basically worked her way to the top by using that to her advantage. However, I saw the message as work hard for what you want and never let go of your dreams, and never let anyone take that away from you. Marilyn wanted to make her dream to be a big movie star come true. She wanted it so badly as a kid and was dissappointed when everyone including her husband told her it couldn't be done. Of corse, avoiding their advice she went on her way to pursue her dreams in Hollywood. Her life was ruff and the men in her life didn't make it easy and they all belittled her, but like all Hollywood stars she held her head up high in eye of the press and kept it classy. I wanted my dress to be like Marilyn Monroe Sexy, and classy. The second thing that inspired me was old Hollywood, because it was so glamorous, bold, and sophisticated. Ava to  me is like a red carpet dress.

Ava's structure is made up of pearls, and glamous rinestones. I gave her pearls on the side of the arms like sleeves giving her a more of and old Hollywood glamor appeal(again going for that old 1950's 1960's look.) When I think of pearls I think of the 1960's and how owning a pearl neacklace meant you were a sophisticated woman. I also wanted Ava to be sexy yet not to over exposed cause I don't like that look for some reason. I believe you should show skin, but also keep the mystery as well, so I gave her a mesh cleavage exposure in the middle of the dress with rinestones in the middle keeping it glitzy still. I wanted to give her a slit to the side of the dress to show a little leg keeping that boldness in the dress. I added ruffles because I felt like keeping it playful and fun. Finally, I colored her yellow because, yellow to me is a daring and exciting. I wouldn't be able to pull off yellow, you'd hardly see me wearing it, which is why I choose it for Ava. I believe everyone should have the opportunity to be bold and beautiful like Ava and Marilyn Monroe. GO FOR YOUR DREAMS AND MAKE THEM HAPPEN! Most importantly work hard, like Marilyn Monroe says "Look like a girl, act like a lady, think like a man, and work like a boss."

Paisley

Paisley isnt't the actual idea of what you thought she would look like. I know the proper term is "a pattern of curved feather like figures."- google. And as you can see there is nothing like that on this dress. She is quite plain actually. The name did catch my eye though because it reminded me of a bubbly fun person. Which is how I wanted to present Paisley. If my dresses were actually existant in some world I'd always would picture this dress in a fashion shoot where there are bright and colorful balloons and a girl in this dress with a smile on her face having fun with this dress.

The term of Paisley means feathered curved figures and in a way this Paisley dress symbolizes the free spirited part of me that I've been dying to unleash. I wanted Paisley to capture the fun wild side. I also wanted her to bring out the confidence and happiness to anyone who ever wears her. Again I got my inspriration of  Paisley from my own style. I gave her a giant bow for boldness and to give her a more feminine touch. It's not completely inspired by my own fashion tastes, It's also inspired by my own alter ego. I know it sounds crazy to some and no I dont pretend to be someone that I'm not. It's just the person that I wish I could be on the inside and out. I'm actually the opposite of  Paisley shy, unconfident, afraid to step out my own comfort zone, and definitely NOT FREEE-SPIRITED! I also gave her a tutu like skirt at the end because I was trying to channel the girly side once again along with the ballerina. Since I'm a dancer I always get inspired by ballet costumes that I have previously worn or what I have seen In ballets, or costumes on pintrest. When your a dancer you get inspired through art and culture, and inspiration is all around you. Even a piece of a flower petal could inspired you to draw a dress or create a dance involving costumes with flowers. I gave Paisley a fun and bright orange because the dress itself is fun. I mean you got a giant bow, who doesn't like bows? and then you got a tutu and I know about half of you who read this know that in the back their head always wanted to be a ballerina at some point. I know I did! I wanted Paisley to give off the power of confidence, weather you have it or not, I want you to have it just for a day. Fashion can be like a super power. You can have the super power to define who you are, the super power to transform yourself, and the super powere to have confidence and be bold.

So if you think about it, I sort of gave you the secret to enjoying life. Readers I want you to do me a favor today, No I want you to do me a couple of favors today. One look at something and get inspired . It can be anything nature, people, movies, books, art, or culture. After you have found your inspiration get ideas and think out of the box. Become an artist, and then come tell me if my advice worked. The second thing I want you to do is put on a piece of clothing, perferably something that is your favorite and see if you find something that makes you feel like you have a super power that I talked about. I want you to go out and change the world. I want you to go out and change your world and your attitudes. Find something that makes you smile and makes you feel invincible. That's why I draw because it makes me feel happy when I feel down, it insipires me, and I suddenly have a super power. Oh the power of paisley.

Cora

Hey guys for those of you who don't know me I am an artist that likes to draw dresses 24/7. Just kidding. I draw on a daily basis espesically when I'm inspried by my surroundings or people, things, and even my dreams. I know I promised to talk about Cora but since this is my first post I wanted to kick it off with what these dressses mean to me and how I got started with this crazy hobby.

When I was younger I loved to draw I wasn't very good but hey what child is an artist at first. I had so many dreams about being an author and illustrator when I was in kindergarden so I started drawing pictures. Mostly of princesses since I LOVE  fariy tales. I was always drawing for my aunt and she'd always tell me that they we're beautiful so I never stopped. Eventually, like all career dreams mine changed once I got to middle school. I wanted to be a fashion designer and wanted to go to art school. sadly, when it came time to apply for colleges my parents couldn't send me to the art school because it was too pricey and being a fashion designer wasn't a practical career. Discouraged I stopped drawing all together cause it wasn't going to happen. That is until my boyfriend bought me a sketch book and wanted me to start drawing again because he saw how happy he made me. Since then I haven't been able to stop drawing I even became more open about it and started posting on social media and showing my family. I got tons of requests to design wedding gowns and quincenera dresses from members of my family. It's crazy to think all this started back when I was a five year old girl dreaming of the world.

So lets begin! First off I name all my dresses because their like my own little dolls, or babies. Each one is carefully thought out from color to name, to design. This little doll is named Cora. It first started out like a wedding dress white, and pure. I wanted it to have some sexiness along with it making Cora more form fitting, yet a little girly. So I made Cora with ruffled detailing and I gave her a little bow belt. When I showed my boyfriend he suggested that Cora have a little more color since it wasn't regal like a wedding dress should be... MEN! Taking his opinion I colored Cora pink. In a way Cora's design was similar to my own style. She is simple yet girly kind of like my style, hence the bow. If you knew me you'd know that I absolutely adore bows. I also find the similarity to my style with the pink since pink is my favorite color. I decided to name her Cora because I felt like the same was bold yet simple at the same time. I also got inspired by one of the episodes in Once Upon a Time by a character named Cora. It was an episode called The Millers Daughter.  A young daughter of a drunken miller started out as an innocent girl wanting to become royal because the elite treated her terriably and her home life style was awful. She wore this red dress and crashed a ball to become the princes suitor. This dress inspired me and no the dresses are not technically the same but the story and the fashion spoke to me. Thus, Cora was born.
